Ananda Shrimp Hatcheries European Union Organic Certification :
The Ananda Hatcheries in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh and Digha, West Bengal, have achieved European Union Certification for Organic Black Tiger (Penaeus monodon) production. This is for the first time an Indian Hatchery gets EU Approval for the production of certified organic seeds. Ananda Foundation is partner of an international organic shrimp project of Austrian retailer Hofer KG. This project is co-funded by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA). The overall project has qualified a group of traditional Black Tiger shrimp farmers in West Bengal as well as a seafood processor to get organic certification. Commercial partners are the German Ristic AG, who has initiated the project, Cameron International LLP, and the German consulting company Bluesensus.
Currently, Ananda Foundation is developing a closed reproduction cycle excluding eye stalk ablation in order to reduce the impact on wild broodstock. Therefore Ananada Group is setting up a specific facility in Machalipatanam, Andhra Pradesh. This project receives technical support by Prof. Boonsirm Withyachumnarnkul of Mahidol University. Also, Asian Center of Technology (AIT), is Bangkok, is associating with the project, said Mr. U K VishwanathaRaju, Chairman, Ananda Group.
